Scott is a life-long Iowan. He was born in Waterloo, adopted (brought home in a picnic basket) and raised in Mason City by Jim and Nancy Finlayson. After serving our country overseas in the United States Navy, Scott had the honor of going to the University of Iowa like his father before him.
Scott has served our country and our community since he enlisted in the United States Navy in 1989. Scott is a former Assistant County Attorney, handling civil matters for Johnson County. He has volunteered on numerous boards and commissions in our area including the League of Women Voters, Big Brothers/Big Sisters, the Iowa City/Johnson County Senior Center, the Iowa United Nations Association, Riverside Theatre, and the Johnson County National Alliance on Mental Illness.
From Bon Aire MHP to Hazelwood Avenue to the "west side", Scott has been a part of our community since 1993. He graduated with honors and obtained his law degree at the University of Iowa. He has worked for both the private and public sectors. He has a long history of public service in our community (see the about page). Scott understands what a wonderful place Johnson County is, and is proud to call Johnson County his home.
Scott is an attorney and a member of the Iowa Bar. The focus of his professional career has been in civil law and finance. Scott has been balancing Johnson County's books for nearly ten years, and is currently the Johnson County Treasurer's Lead Deputy. Scott knows he is lucky to be working with an amazing staff (who he hopes to make proud). Scott is experienced in the daily duties of the Johnson County Treasurer's Office and can continue to provide high-quality service from day one.
A personal note from Scott. "The Primary for this election is June 7, 2022 and the General election is November 8, 2022. I would be honored if I could have your vote. Thank you!" - Scott Finlayson
